During the session held
under the title “Turkish Language Day: An Interactive Talk with High School
Students,” Asst. Prof. Egemen Ozan Sönmez met with students through his
presentation entitled “Turkish Is Changing with Us! The Past, Present and
Future of Our Language.” The talk focused on the relationship between language,
thought and communication. Asst. Prof. Egemen Ozan Sönmez emphasized that
Turkish is not merely a means of communication, but also a carrier of thought,
culture and collective memory.
With the active
participation of the students, the talk addressed various topics such as the
vocabulary of Turkish, the emergence and transformation of words, the use of
language in everyday communication, and the effects of technological
developments on Turkish. Through interactive activities and opportunities for
students to share their views, participants were encouraged to reflect on
Turkish and experience the creative power of language.
Throughout the session,
students discussed different uses of language and words while also having the
opportunity to create new Turkish words through various activities. In this
way, the dynamic nature of language as a living and evolving structure that is
continuously reshaped by its users was explored through examples.
The program concluded
with students’ questions and an exchange of views.
