The online event
titled “From Tradition to the Future: Grammar in Teaching Turkish as a
Foreign Language,” organized by Fenerbahçe University Turkish Language
Teaching Application and Research Center, was held via Microsoft Teams at 19:00
on Wednesday, 10 June 2026.
The event was moderated
by Dr. Egemen Ozan Sönmez, Director of FBÜTÖMER, and featured Assistant
Professor Seda Kaya from the Department of Turkish and Social Sciences
Education at the Faculty of Education of Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University as
the guest speaker.
In her presentation,
Assistant Professor Seda Kaya emphasized that grammar teaching should not be
regarded merely as the transmission of rules. She highlighted the importance of
teaching grammatical structures within communicative contexts in ways that support
students in using the language effectively and accurately. It was also noted
that factors such as the proficiency level and learning needs of the target
group, the characteristics of learners’ native languages, and the quality of
the learning environment play a determining role in teaching Turkish as a
foreign language.
The event also included
discussions on the use of artificial intelligence-supported tools in Turkish
language teaching. It was stated that artificial intelligence applications
could contribute to teaching processes in areas such as personalized learning,
instant feedback, materials development, assessment and evaluation, and learner
progress monitoring.
The program continued
interactively with questions from the participants, during which examples,
recommendations, and current approaches concerning grammar practices in
teaching Turkish as a foreign language were shared.
Following the
question-and-answer session, the program concluded with Dr. Egemen Ozan Sönmez,
Director of FBÜTÖMER, presenting Assistant Professor Seda Kaya with a
certificate of appreciation.
