The online event titled “Transforming Knowledge into Action in Foreign Language Teaching and Its Implications for Assessment Processes,” organized by FBÜTÖMER at Fenerbahçe University, was held via Microsoft Teams at 19:00 on 13 April 2026 with the participation of 147 attendees.

The event was moderated by Lecturer Kübra Kaya Ülker, while the opening address was delivered by Dr. Egemen Ozan Sönmez, Director of FBÜTÖMER. At the beginning of the program, Prof. Dr. Osman Mert, President of the Turkish Language Association, also addressed the participants.

In his speech, Prof. Dr. Osman Mert emphasized that the Turkish Language Association is not merely an institution but a shared value belonging to academics and everyone working in the field of language, stating, “The Turkish Language Association is your institution.” Referring to the Association’s dictionary projects, Mert provided information particularly about the ongoing three-dimensional laser scanning of inscriptions written in the Old Turkic script. He noted that inscriptions located in Central Asia had also been included in the project. Emphasizing their openness to academic studies and collaborations, Mert stated that cooperation between academics and institutions would produce significant and high-quality outcomes.

Addressing cultural heritage projects in his speech, Mert also announced that three-dimensional laser scans of the Kül Tigin, Bilge Kağan, Bilge Tonyukuk, Moyun Çor, and Taryat inscriptions had been completed and that full-scale replicas of these inscriptions had been produced in Türkiye using granite of the same color.

Associate Professor Emrah Boylu, who participated in the event as the guest speaker, made important observations regarding assessment and evaluation processes in foreign language teaching. Drawing attention to the close relationship between language processes and assessment methods, Boylu highlighted validity, reliability, skills-based approaches, and the contemporary role of artificial intelligence.

Emphasizing the importance of adopting an action-oriented approach in education, Boylu underlined the following key points:

Positive Focus: Focusing on what students can do rather than what they cannot do supports the learning process in a much more constructive manner.

Integration into Examinations: All educational practices should reflect an action-oriented approach, and this approach must also be incorporated into examination systems.

Process-Based Assessment: Boylu emphasized the importance of process-based assessment and evaluation, stating that assessment tools should place students’ competencies at the center.

Following the question-and-answer session, the event concluded with Dr. Egemen Ozan Sönmez, Director of FBÜTÖMER, presenting Associate Professor Emrah Boylu with a certificate of participation.
