The event titled “The
Importance of Diction in Effective Communication,” held online via
Microsoft Teams on 20 February 2025, brought together 35 participants. The
guest speaker was Prof. Dr. Nagehan UÇAN EKE of Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University.
The event began with an opening address by Assistant Professor Jülide ERKEN,
followed by speeches delivered by Prof. Dr. Ahmet SELAMOĞLU, Vice Rector of our
University, and Lecturer Egemen Ozan SÖNMEZ, Director of our Center. Prof. Dr.
Nagehan UÇAN EKE then delivered her presentation.
In her presentation,
Prof. Dr. Nagehan UÇAN EKE discussed the definition of diction and its
importance in communication in detail. She provided comprehensive information
on correct intonation and emphasis techniques, the key elements of delivering
an effective presentation, and ways to speak confidently and memorably in
public. She also addressed the role of body language in communication and
highlighted important points concerning how it can be used more effectively. By
recommending books on diction and effective communication, she further
broadened the participants’ perspectives on the subject.
Academics from different
universities also participated in the event, enabling experts in the field to
exchange knowledge and experience and present a variety of perspectives. The
event provided a productive academic environment that broadened the participants’
horizons and raised awareness of effective communication and proper speaking
techniques.
The event concluded with
Lecturer Egemen Ozan SÖNMEZ, Director of our Center, presenting Prof. Dr.
Nagehan UÇAN EKE with a certificate of appreciation.
